My name is Ashley Caruk and I am a proud member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Team In Training. I am currently training to participate in the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco on October 16, 2011. I am writing to ask you for a donation to help me fundraise for the LLSC. The Society exists to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma as well as improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Funds raised through Team in Training support blood cancer research and patient services.

This year, an estimated 15,010 Canadians will be diagnosed with a blood cancer, and 7,210 of those battles will not be won. The good news is the LLSC has made it their mission to take this battle head on. $0.74 of every dollar that someone like you donates to the Society goes directly to mission related activities and services. While we don’t have a cure, funding for cancer research has enabled new treatments to save many, many lives. In 1960, the five year survival rate for children diagnosed with leukemia was a heartbreaking 4%. Today that survival rate is 85%!

I have committed to running a 21 kms, and completing my first half marathon. Every single stride will be worth it when I reach my fundraising goal of $4000.

I am truly fortunate and so proud to be involved with this organization. I will always be grateful for the love and support of my family, friends and people like you. Please give what you can. Every single donation is a huge step in the right direction to the ultimate goal.
